We planted several hundred native fruit trees as part of the TreeDependent program this year.

This spring, GreenDependent supported the planting of a total of 458 native Hungarian fruit tree saplings. The fruit trees were donated by three organizational partners: Merkbau Ltd., ALTEO Energy Service Plc., and BCSDH - Hungarian Business Council for Sustainable Development. Additionally, GreenDependent compensated its own office operations and the carbon footprint of EU 1.5° Lifestyles project „Rebound workshop” by planting trees.

Merkbau distributed the saplings among its employees, while the trees from ALTEO and BCSDH were planted in the gardens of educational, social, and healthcare institutions. BCSDH employees even assisted with the planting process at one of the participating high schools. At GreenDependent, to compensate our office operations' carbon footprint, we donated 150 tree seedlings (including the cost of necessary tools) to the Igazgyöngy Foundation. Furthermore, during our EU1.5 Lifestyles project workshop, we also provided trees to the participants.

GreenDependent purchase the trees from a gene pool called Tündérkert ("Fairy Garden") located in Zala County, West Hungary by Prima Primissima awarded Gyula Kovács. Their mission is to preserve and spread (or rather “re-spread”) native Hungarian fruit tree species. Native trees have a much better biological tolerance than foreign tree species, thus they are more resistant so they do not need regular pruning and spraying. In this way, in addition to climate change mitigation, the TreeDependent programme also facilitates the conservation of biodiversity.
