Earth Day is coming - let's plant a tree with Tree Circles!

The Tree Circles initiative was founded jointly by the Schumacher Institute (UK), Social Change and Development (SCAD, India) and GreenDependent Institute (Hungary). The main objective of the cooperation is to strengthen and make more popular tree planting activities for environmental, social, educational and community building purposes.
SCAD and GreenDependent has been active in multi-purpose tree planting, funded by donations and other kinds of supports and subsidites. In India, SCAD grows plant seedlings, and plants them with the aid of local self-supporting groups and organisations. The tree planting has multiple reasons: mitigating the effects of climate change, preventing soil degradation, producing food and fodder etc.

In Hungary, GreenDependent purchase the trees from a gene pool called Tündérkert ("Fairy Garden") located in Zala County, West Hungary. Their mission is to preserve and spread (or rather “re-spread”) native Hungarian fruit tree species. Native trees have a much better biological tolerance than foreign tree species, thus they are more resistant so they do not need regular pruning and spraying. In this way, in addition to climate change mitigation, the TreeDependent programme also facilitates the conservation of biodiversity. Trees are planted in the garden of schools and other educational and non-profit institutions.

If you are interested in donating trees for the above organisations, you can do it here:
