E-Co Housing project is funded by the Urban Innovative Actions (UIA) programme, which aims to provide financial sources for testing novel, innovative solutions for European cities. The beneficiary of the project is the Municipality of Zugló (14th District of Budapest), and GreenDependent Institute is involved in the project as a partner organisation.
The project aims to build an innovative, sustainable house providing rental apartments for socially disadvantaged citizens living in the district. The building will be an active, highly energy efficient building with smart solutions and with the least possible impacts on the environment. Besides providing 25 apartments, the project also intends to establish a dwelling community and to support healthy and sustainable lifestyle within the building.
GreenDependent Institute will ensure that environmental aspects are met during the project's implementation period, and small footprint lifestyle's principles are met within the building. In order to do so, GDI will take the following tasks:
- to prepare a specific handbook about sustainable lifestlye in the cities for households;
- to educate families moving in the building;
- to organise public events;
- to organise the closing event introducing the project's outcome.
