Healthy forests, sufficient energy

News: 8 September 2022

Our series about healthy forests, sufficient energy goes on by presenting further examples!

GreenDependent – as part of the Ne vágj ki minden fát (Don’t cut down all our trees) community - which includes civil and expert organizations as well as artists – is showing how the needs of those living in energy and/or housing poverty can be met in a more sustainable, greener way. Let’s make sure that we all have healthy forests, sufficient energy!

The examples were collected in the frame of an H2020 project called EnergyPROSPECTS which aims at raising awareness about the different forms of energycitizenship.

Biobriquette for the energy poor: alternative fuel – less wood to burn

The Biomass briquettes programme was established in a disadvantaged region of Hungary where the unemployment rate is higher than the national average and many people live below the poverty line. The project was developed within the framework of the Real Pearl Foundation and Art School with the aim of hand-making biomass briquette, a cheap, environmentally friendly fuel. The project contributes to creating new jobs and strengthening the community, reducing the heating costs of families involved, and saving local forests from being illegally cut down.

POWERPOOR, the toolkit for reducing energy poverty

The main aim of POWERPOOR is to support programmes/schemes for energy-poor citizens and encourage the use of alternative financing schemes (e.g. establishing energy communities / cooperatives, and crowd funding). POWERPOOR facilitates experience and knowledge sharing, as well as the implementation of small-scale energy efficiency interventions and the installation of renewable energy sources, increasing the active participation of citizens. A network of energy advisors and mentors is also created.
