With native fruit trees for a smaller carbon footprint – the TreeDependent programme continues

Our TreeDependent - Responsible events, responsible travel programme continues in 2022. In cooperation with our partners we distributed 319 trees to 17 schools, kindergartens and local NGOs this spring. 234 of these trees were sponsored by ALTEO Nyrt., 50 trees by the Business Council for Sustainable Development in Hungary, and 35 trees by GreenDependent Institute.

(Moreover, GreenDependent provided 133 additional seedlings to the households taking part in the E.ON EnergyNeighbourhoods programme.)

The trees are coming from a gene pool called Tündérkert ("Fairy Garden") located in Pórszombat, Zala County. Their mission is to preserve and spread native Hungarian fruit tree species.

Planting trees in kindergartens and schools can have additional social benefits beyond carbon-compensation. As Hajnalka Varga, director of a beneficiary elementary school told us: „Our students in the school can plant and raise their own fruit trees, see them grow and learn to take responsibility.”
