We interviewed experts and households for EU 1.5° Lifestyles project

We are progressing with the implementation of our EU 1.5Lifestyles project. Among other things, the project aims to

  1. identify the most effective lifestyle options that help us towards 1.5-degree living,
  2. along with them also identify the barriers and supporting factors of their implementation,
  3. create solutions for implementation together with all stakeholders.

Recently, we have conducted interviews with sustainable lifestyles experts in the 5 project case countries (Hungary, Latvia, Germany, Spain and Sweden) to discover more in relation to our aims in points 1 and 2 above.
In Hungary, we were supported in this by

• Mária Csutora from Budapesti Corvinus Egyetem on our low-carbon lifestyles options list in general, including barriers and supporting factors,
• Nóra Feldmár from Habitat for Humanity Magyarország on how energy poverty impacts the implementation of low-carbon lifestyles options,
• Antal Gertheis from Mobilissimus on the low-carbon lifestyles options related to mobility,
• Emese Gulyás from Tudatos Vásárlók Egyesülete on the low-carbon lifestyles options related to nutrition,
• László Magyar from Energiaklub on the low-carbon lifestyles options related to housing (and energy use).

In the next step we conducted interviews with inspiring citizens who are already on the path towards 1.5-degree living.
We learnt from them about

  1. why they decided to get on the 1.5-degree path,
  2. how their lifestyle transformation is progressing
  3. what and who supports them on this path,
  4. what are the things that are challenging and which challenges need to be overcome,
  5. and what kind of positive impacts sustainable living has on their life, e.g. regarding physical and mental health.

Recently, we have conducted interviews again with experts in the 5 project case countries (Hungary, Latvia, Germany, Spain and Sweden) to discover more in relation to the barriers and supporting factors of the implementation of 1.5-degree lifestyle options, which include structural barriers and enablers (e.g. legislation, infrastructures, financial incentives, social norms, etc.);

In Hungary, we were supported in this by

  • László Antal Z. from Centre for Social Sciences, Research Department for Social Integration and Inequalities at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences,
  • Miklós Antal from the New Vision Research Community of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and Eötvös Loránd,
  • Zoltán Baranyák from Wattmanager Ltd,
  • Mária Csete from BME Department of Environmental Economics and Sustainability,
  • Gyula Zilahy from BME Department of Environmental Economics and Sustainability.
We are grateful for all the excellent support we received!

We will publish in detail what we learnt in Hungary and the 4 other case countries (Germany, Latvia, Spain and Sweden) - please follow the EU 1.5Lifestyles Facebook page to learn when we do so.
