Translating Energy Citizenship

In the framework of the Energy PROSPECTS research project, GreenDependent (www.greendependent.org) organised an expert workshop in Hungary about energy citizenship.

Among other things, we discussed issues like what energy citizenship means, what kind of individual and collective examples of energy citizenship exist today (also working towards a typology of ideal types of energy citizenship), and we also spent quite a bit of time discussing how and to what extent the currently existing forms of energy citizenship contribute to the creation of a more sustainable, democratic and just energy system.

The word cloud below provides a summary of the various definitions provided. The words that stand out are “community” (közösség), “conscious/aware” (tudatos), “energy” (energia), and then “quality” (minőség), “energy consumption” (energiafogyasztás), “energy system” (energiarendszer), “self-aware” (öntudatos), and also “human”, “active”, “own” and “has the ability”.
