EnergyPROSPECTS conceptual framework (Policy brief No.1)

Setting the scene for a critical exploration of the roles of citizens in the European energy transition

EnergyCitizenship is all about the ways that citizens are involved in the energy transition.

The current vision of energy citizenship in research and policy-making is however limited. In Energy PROSPECTS we open up the concept to include less visible and explored forms.

What is energy citizenship? How is it taking shape across the European continent today? What implications could it have for the governance of the European energy transition, from EU to local level? And, most importantly, why should we care about less visible types of energy citizenship? These are the questions we are looking for answers to.
