Coordinator trainings in the EnergyNeighbourhoods programme were held in a good mood

The EU's Sustainable Energy Award winning EnergyNeighbourhoods program - which was launched in 2011 with the support of the European Union, and then since 2013 with the support of the E.ON Hungária Group - has been encouraging people who want to save energy and green their households for the tenth time.

In the complex competition that lasts for several months, participants can reduce their energy consumption and thus their carbon footprint by organizing themselves into small communities and by changing their behavior without financial investment.

The first two training sessions to help prepare for the competition were held in Budapest in October and November for volunteer climate coordinators leading the communities. The first coordinator training took place on 16 October, where our main topics were community organizing, exploring motivations, the importance of the climate crisis and the role of small communities. The second training session was scheduled for 20 November and focused on motivating and supporting the coordinators, learning about energy saving practices and how to use the EnergyNeighbourhoods website's energy saving calculator.

Again this year, many enthusiastic and responsible people who felt they would like to do something to promote and spread the message of environmental and energy awareness among their family, friends, acquaintances or colleagues, responded to our call. Many of those who applied had never taken part in the competition before, but some are returning participants. There is also a wide range of communities, with coordinators from smaller towns and cities across the country, and teams are already forming in all parts of the country.
The coordinators will spend the rest of November working on organising their communities. And on the first of December, the competition begins, with the monthly meter reading until May.
The competition will run from December until next May, during which time we will send bi-weekly energy saving tips and three creative tasks to help households assess their consumption habits and set savings and greening targets. The first creative excercise has already been announced, which will be a household energy survey to complete, and a shared creative excercise within each comunities.
