The 10th season of EnergyNeighbourhoods programme will begin soon in 2021

After 9 successful seasons, the energy saving and lifestyle change programme called ’EnergyNeighbourhoods’ will be launched for the 10th time in autumn 2021, organised by GreenDependent Institute with the support of the E.ON Hungaria Group. The programme's main objective is to promote and enable low-carbon and green lifestyles among families, households and small communities.

In the light of the IPCC's 6th Assessment Report (published in August 2021), the consequences of climate change will be irreversible and catastrophic unless effective actions are taken immediately. This immediate action and change are required from each and every one of us for instance by revising our actual energy usage. Because once we get a clearer picture of our own energy consumption, we can start to change our everyday habits and routines related to energy. The EnergyNeighbourhoods programme can help in this effort with various tools, tips, motivation and prizes.

The EnergyNeighbourhoods programme has been running since 2011 in Hungary. The programme's main aim is to promote low-carbon and green lifestyle among families, households and small communities (so-called ’EnergyNeighbourhoods’), since it is easier to make long-term changes together, in groups and supported by groups. The main message of the programme is that significant amount of energy (and money) can be saved by changing everyday routines and habits, without major investments. It is also emphasized that climate-friendly, green lifestyle can be implemented by anyone.

During the programme, small communities (of families, friends, colleagues, etc.) compete for saving the largest amount of energy only through changing their behaviour and everyday consumption patterns without reducing their quality of life. Each group is supported by a volunteer adult coordinator called „energy master”. Energy masters support activities of their group, organise meetings and motivate their members. For these key members of the participating groups, GreenDependent organizes trainings before and during the time of the competition to provide help, tools and information for their work.

We hope that many environmentally conscious and motivated coordinators  and participants will take part in the competition for all over the country in this year as well.

If you would like to know more about the energy saving competition, you can read about it on the main page of the program.
