Daikin and GreenDependent Institute are looking to measure their carbon footprint of residential communities

As part of a tripartite collaboration initiated by the local Interest Association and sponsored by Daikin, GreenDependent Institute calculated the average carbon footprint of 21 families from Piliscsaba-Garancstető during the spring of 2020. The survey found that the average carbon footprint of families involved in the research is about twice the sustainable level.

The primary goal of the project was to help the participating households learn about the size of the carbon footprint associated with their lifestyles and its key components, which can help them consciously reduce it in the future.

This form of cooperation is important for participants, and also for society, because now there is a lack of available and detailed data about the average carbon footprint components of the Hungarian population. In order to raise the awareness of the population about their lifestyles, and also to help them to change them successfully, it is necessary to become much more familiar with habits, because this can establish and encourage individual commitments.

On November 7, representatives of the three organizations planted 42 trees together to symbolize their role in a carbon-conscious lifestyle. Twenty-one of them were Hungarian native fruit trees, which were given to the families who were involved.

At the event, the members of the GreenDependent team demonstrated how the carbon footprint of our lifestyles can be effectively reduced, and then they planted the trees together with representatives of Daikin and with the participating families.

Although this year's project has been finished, cooperation between Daikin and GreenDependent will continue next year because it is important to continue the work and expand existing experiences with new ones. So from now GreenDependent and Daikin are looking for new residential communities to participate in a project about their carbon footprint calculation, and after that, to represent a more sustainable way of life and to show their own community how to help others to reduce the impact of human activity on the environment.

Applications for the project will be open from the end of January 2021 at the GreenDependent Institute’s website.
