Compete4SECAP national kick-off meeting

The national kick-off meeting of the Compete4SECAP project was held in Hungary on 28 March 2018. The main goal of the event was to bring together the officials and leaders responsible for energy use, building and facility management, environmental protection of the participating municipalities (Budaörs, Kaposvár and 2 districts of Budapest: Pestszentlőrinc-Pestszentimre and Újpest), and to dicuss the details of the project.

Based on a fruitful cooperation with GreenDependent in the last 10 years the meeting venue was kindly provided by the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights. The event was opened with the greeting words of Dr. Gyula Bándi, the Ombudsman for Future Generations, and an important part of the program was devoted to the presentation of Viktória Szabó, the office's Environmental Officer, who shared their experiences gained in the Save@Work programme.

The main goal of the three-years-long Compete4SECAP project, runing until the fall of 2020, is to support local governments in their quests to become more energy-efficient and sustainable - especially in terms of decarbonising their territories, strengthening their capacity to adapt to unavoidable climate change impacts, and allowing their citizens to access secure, sustainable and affordable energy. Activities target three main areas: the introduction of an energy management system (ISO 50001), the development of Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAP) and fostering more energy-conscious behaviour of their staff.
