Acting for the environment: cooperation between a ’green’ and a ’social’ organisation

The EnergyNeighbourhoods project has promoted low-carbon, green way of life and behaviour change in everyday practices among families, households and small communities since 2011, emphasizing that climate-friendly, green lifestyle can be achieved by anyone. Between 2016-17 a Roma community, living in the village of Bag under deeply poor conditions, participated in the project, supported by a logal NGO, BAGázs Public Benefit Association.

In cooperation with the programme’s organiser, GreenDependent Institute, the Roma community called ’Kerasz Khetane’ (Let’s do together) achieved as much as 27% energy savings by simple, yet effective changes in everyday routine such as scaling the water heater, switching off electric equipments not in use, watching less TV and turning off light more regularly. This is a great example for a fruitful cooperation between a ’green’ and a ’social’ organisation, contributing to act for climate protection and reducing household expenses. The two organisations intend to promote this good example and results achieved and wish to cooperate in the future as well.
