What kinds of trees are planted in the scope of the TreeDependent programme and our service? Where are these trees planted?

GreenDependent purchase the trees from a gene pool called Tündérkert ("Fairy Garden") located in Zala County, West Hungary. Their mission is to preserve and spread (or rather “re-spread”) native Hungarian fruit tree species. Native trees have a much better biological tolerance than foreign tree species, thus they are more resistant so they do not need regular pruning and spraying. In this way, in addition to climate change mitigation, the TreeDependent programme also facilitates the conservation of biodiversity.

During the past 10 years, GreenDependent have organised the planting of thousands of trees in 100+ settlements (see the map below).

Trees are planted in the gardens of schools and non-profit initiatives. We aim at choosing destinations for the planting that will surely take care of the trees in the long run and where trees can contribute to additional social benefits (e.g. education, employment of the disadvanted) besides the compensation for carbon footprint.

These elements of the TreeDependent programme - i.e. planting of native fruit trees, conservation of biodiversity, support of social development aims - also contribute to the following Sustainable Development Goals:
