The fifth season of the E.ON EnergyNeighbourhoods program has just ended, the GreenDependent Institute held the closing award ceremony on the 25th of May. We celebrated the participants of this season, also the 5th anniversary of the program. We gave thanks to our partners from E.ON and the most enthusiastic coordinators who led their team at least for three seasons.

During the five years, we trained almost 150 volunteer climate-coordinators who led the energy communities; altogether more than 650 households with 2200 people participated in the program.  In this season, 90 households with 324 participants joined the EnergyNeighbourhoods. The three best communities finished the competition with 9%, 9,9% and 11,8% of energy savings.

At the closing event we presented our environmentally friendly exhibition about energy- and water saving tools. Also, the photos from the  previous seasons and some statictics from this yearcould be seen. Moreover, we exhibited the posters made by the communities about the “desired green future”.

Beside the exhibition there were three awareness-rising presentations in the topics of community energy and self-supporting energy systems. The GreenDependent also prepared presentations about the climate strikes and the global impacts of the households.

Also, the three winning team shared with the others their best tips about energy saving. The first common point was that heating is a critical area; they also mentioned that the focus should be on the large consumers (like big freezers, boilers); and they said the energy meter is an important tool which can help a lot with mapping the house’s “weaknesses”.

The EnergyNeighbourhoods program will start again this autumn. Until that, similarly to last year, we will run a social media campaign this summer about how much energy do we really need.
