EnergyNeighbourhoods programme - halftime

The 7th season of EnergyNeighbourhoods program started in September 2018. 21 teams entered the programme, and out of these 15 are still in the competition. They are from all over Hungary as shown in the map.

First moves

In October and November 2018 we held two trainings for the volunteer coordinators  who applied, after which they started to organise their teams (i.e. EnergyNeighbourhoods). In December, the energy saving competition started with the collection of reference consumption  data and regular meter reading.

In January, families completed household DIY energy audits as a part of the first challenge. 90 percent of the participating households filled out the forms which is a really good rate compared to the previous years!

In February 2019, GreenDependent held the second coordinator training. There we collected successes and challenges of “coordinator life”. Volunteer coordinators were also invited to do some creative tasks about energy saving. For example, the participants measured and compared the energy consumption of an iron, a kettle, a toaster and a hairdryer; and they also filled out a quiz about energy use in the home. By doing and learning how to do these tasks coordinators will be able to do them with their own teams or EnergyNeighbourhoods as well.

Where are we now in the programme?

At the halftime of the competition...

Participating teams have been doing the second task, which is a five-week-long carbon-challenge that started at the end of February. This means that the participant households are trying to saving energy and water following weekly themes. The first three weeks focused on stand-by, heating, and energy use in the bathroom. Currently they are focusing on energy use in the kitchen and cooking. The next, and at the same time last theme will be chosen by the teams themselves.

What is next?

The competition has not ended yet! There will be two more meter readings at the beginning of April and May. And we also have one more creative challenge for the households.

And let's not forget to mention that on 25th of May we will celebrate the end of the competition together with delicious lunch, cake and, not least, with valuable prizes.
